Why the long miles?

Thinking about the different long distance trails here in the US, why are PCT hikers so much faster, and their miles per day (mpd) so much higher on average than AT hikers?   Myself I did a handful of 20s and only 1 30 on the AT, and I was faster than most.  This is bush-league stuff for most PCT hikers.  Why the disparity?

If you’d like to vote, you can pick more than 1 option. I think it’s probably a combination of a few.
